South Beach Smoke has been primarily known for the basic e-cig starter kits and e-liquids. As of recently they branched out into bigger, and bolder personal vaporizers, most of these being vape pen style models.
SouthBeach Smoke has been around since the early days of the ecig industry and has firmly stamped out their reputation for making the highest quality e-cigarettes and e-juices at excellent prices.
Over the years, we come to expect a lot from SouthBeach Smoke, and they have yet to let us down. With these high expectations in mind, we thought it was time to review the next great e-cigarette offered by SouthBeach Smoke, the Thunder.
SouthBeach made their mark primarily with their high-quality e-cig starter kits, like the Delux Kit and their excellent line of e-liquids. They branched out into bigger, and bolder vape pens only relatively recently, and most of this newer lineup are the vape pen models. Within this group of new vaporizer lineup, our favorite was definitely the “Thunder.”
One main reason being the tank and the other being the variable voltage dial built in. These two big factors can take a normal vaporizer to the next level if done right of course. I was very excited to review this device and was dying to know how this would ultimately perform. This starter kit came with 1 vv battery, one thunder tank, some extra atomizers and the wall and USB chargers; the e-juice had to be purchased separately.

The Thunder comes with everything needed to get vaping right out of the box. The stainless steel looked sharp and wasn’t a fingerprint magnet like most and has the overall feel of a very solid device. The device only comes in stainless steel and black – not a big deal for me but SouthBeachSmoke’s other devices have an array of color options, so I found the limited choices a bit odd. The stainless steel looked sharp and wasn’t a fingerprint magnet like most along with the overall feel of the device being very solid.
The “thunder tank” that comes with it holds up to 1.7ml that is typical, but what is not typical is the airflow control. This little feature truly makes the device very customizable when dealing with the throat hit.The ability to control the “draw” off the device with a simple twist of the dial at the bottom of the tank is a game-changer. The overall vaping experience can be dictated greatly with this feature, and anyone who has ever had to use a cheap tank knows how bad it can be.
The battery – 1300mAh (huge) and with a variable voltage dial located at the bottom of the device help make this a power monitor’s dream. Two days can easily be done between charges, according to the voltage used.
Heavy smokers will still get a solid day out of it vaping at a higher level. At a 4.3 setting was my sweet spot with my ejuice, and the vapor output was significantly improved from the 3.8 setting. The device rarely got warm with constant use.
SouthBeachSmoke has a large variety of e-juices to choose from but more importantly, they have strict standards from the lab, which goes into great detail on their e-liquids page. On the flavor side of things, one main ingredient they DON’T add is “diacetyl” that is a fake butter flavoring popular with lesser quality vendors that are sometimes used as a cheap filler. With that said, their bread and butter – in my opinion, is their more exotic flavors, so I went with the “banana split.” And it delivered with a solid blast of a banana-ice creamy blend and without question, I am hooked on this one. For a tobacco option, I went with the “American Red” and it had more of bite to it than preferred, I like my tobacco flavors a little smoother.
Overall, the Thunder from SouthBeachSmoke during my review fully delivered thanks to the massive battery and the adjustable airflow thunder tank fully. The color options are a little bit of a bummer, but not a deal-breaker by any means. The $99 price tag is a little higher than I would put it at (now at $64.99) – SBS is pretty generous about coupons so that price is typically less at the point of sale. A step up from the standard vape pen thanks to the multiple custom settings at your fingertips and a thicker throat hit. The next perfect step in moving towards a bigger device.
