Electronic cigarette harm reduction

How Safe Are Vapes to Use?

Are electronic cigarettes safe? This questions is straightforward enough: however, the answer is not. Before this question can be answered, there needs to be a few understandings about electronic cigarettes.

First off, if you are a non smoker, please, please, do not introduce nicotine into your system by justifying electronic cigarettes. You are inhaling something beside the air your body needs. Do not start! Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances in the world. I do not encourage using e-cigarettes for non-smokers, underage users, or pregnant women. I encourage smokers who have tried unsuccessfully to quit to look at e-cigs as another option. Most smokers understand the deadly risks involved with such a unhealthy habit.

However when it comes to e-cigs, many people want to believe that they are safe and non-toxic, so are electronic cigarettes safe?

Nicotine is a drug; therefore it is toxic in certain dosages. This is true for many of the products we safely use every day just like any over-the-counter product we buy at the drug store. However, nicotine is not the worst thing in cigarettes, it is just what keeps us smoking. Tar and smoke are the real bad-guys.

The great feature about e-cigs is that they offer a way to give smokers what they need minus the thousands (yes thousands) of chemicals that are present in tobacco. You will need to decide what is least harmful to your health, 4,000 chemicals in tobacco cigarettes or 4 chemicals in electronic cigarettes…?

E-cigs should be used as an alternative to smoking cigarettes and to reduce tobacco harm. I have seen the harmful effects of smoking first hand and know that the problem of tobacco addiction needs to be looked at in an entirely different way. We cannot keep trying the same quit smoking tactics over and over if they do not work.

Smokers have been marketed and sold an addictive product that has little chance of escape. We are then sold even more products that are specifically designed  to combat the first problem. In theory, this product cycle should work. After all, these quit smoking products are designed to help us quit smoking and should have a high number of successful results, right? WRONG! Many of the stop smoking products out there offer horrible  success rate short-term and offer no long-term solution to avoid relapse.

It seems the dozens of variables must aligning at just the right time, in just the right way, for most smokers to quit smoking, All of which can crumble with one just one cigarette. It is more than will power, it is the addiction to nicotine that makes it so hard to quit smoking.

Nicotine is as about as dangerous as caffeine, and the ingredients in most USA made eliquids are FDA approved for common food and medical treatments. This helps support the general opinion that electronic cigarettes are the smartest alternative when compared to smoking.
